Caterina lived in Valletta and its suburbs and married young, at the age of 14. There’s no data to show if this was a forced wedding or not.

She is one of my maternal 3 x great-grandmothers.

She was born on Saturday 17 April 1790¹, daughter of Gio Maria Curmi² and Maria nee Xerri³.

Her parents baptised her the day after as Caterina Clara Veneranda Antonina⁴ in the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Porto Salvo, Valletta⁵

Family

On Tuesday 27 November 1804⁶, she married Michele Felici⁷ in the Roman Catholic Church of St Publius, Floriana⁸. The Reverend Ferdinand Camilleri officiated⁹.

She was 14 years old when she married which is young, even for those days.

Together they had 8 children¹⁰:

Notable events

Residence

After being born in Valletta, her family moved to Floriana soon after. The church’s census of 1792 records a 1-year old Caterina Curmi living in the suburb of Floriana¹¹.

She must have lived in Valletta after marriage because that is where her son was born¹².

Curiosities

Between 1798 – 1800, during the French occupation, she was a French citizen.

Death

I know was dead in 1891 when her son died¹³, but this doesn’t narrow things down much.
