One of the few Partecas who ever lived, Giuseppe moved out of Valletta and became emancipated later in life.
He is one of my paternal great-great-great-grandfathers.
He was born in the parish of Porto Salvo1, Valletta2, in either 1837 or 18382. He was the son of Antonio Parteca2 3 and Anna Cassar3.
Family
On Tuesday 13 April 18583, he married Carmela Borg3 in the Roman Catholic church of St Rocco3 in Valletta, Malta3. The Rev Giuseppe Guzman officiated3.
Together they had 3 children I’m aware of:
- Antonio Paolo Giovanni
- Giovanna
- Spiro Vincenzo Carmelo Paolo

Notable events
When he registered his daughter’s birth with the state authorities, he declared he was illiterate2.
He worked in trade, describing himself as:
Residence
As far as official records go, he lived in Valletta all his life2 1 but I will be able to complement this once I get more precise information about his death.
The 1900 electoral register lists a Giuseppe Parteca living at Sotto le Loggie 21, Sliema5. With such an unusual surname, I conclude this was him.
Surname
On his daughter’s act of death, he is recorded as being Giuseppe Partica6. This is the only instance of this spelling that I’ve encountered.
Death
I have no details about his death, but I do know he was still alive when his great-grandson Paolo was born in 19137. He had died by 1927, when his daughter died6.
