Attard-born Maria Sammut lived in the village for all her life. She tilled the land her family owned as well ash having a full family life.

She is one of my paternal 3 x great-grandmothers.

She was born on Monday 23 October 1809¹ in Attard, Malta², daughter of Giuseppe³ and Grazia Calleja⁴. Her parents baptised her on the same day as Maria Paola Giuseppa Catherina⁵.

Family

On Sunday 29 April 1838⁶ she married Gio Maria Bezzina⁷ in the parish church of Attard⁸.

Together they had 7 children I know of:

• Carmela Antonia Giusta
• Salvatore Carmelo Paolo Giuseppe Michele Giusto
• Salvatore Antonio Paolo Giovanni

Residence

She lived in Attard before marriage⁹, and stayed there because this is where her daughter was born¹⁰.

Occupation

In 1864 she declared her profession as Lavora in Terreni¹¹ (EN: Works the land). Since her husband was a farmer, she obviously worked on the family estate.

Death

I have no details about her death, but given societal norms in Malta at the time it is probable she died and was buried in Attard.

This would have been after 1864, because she was still alive when her daughter married¹², but before 1902 when her daughter died¹³.
