Michele was a Felice but had this name changed to Felici, possibly because of a typo.

He is one of my maternal 3 x great-grandfathers.

He was born on Monday 6 October 1783¹ in Valletta, Malta², son of Giuseppe Felice³ and Liberata⁴ Busuttil⁵. His parents christened him the day after⁶ as Michele Andrea Carlo Fortunato Nicola⁷ in the Roman Catholic Church of St Paul Shipwreck, Valletta⁸.

Family

On Tuesday 27 November 1804⁹, he married Catarina Curmi¹⁰ in the Roman Catholic Church of St Publius, Floriana¹¹. His name here is unmistakenly listed as “Felici”¹². The Reverend Ferdinand Camilleri officiated¹³.

Together they had 8 children¹⁴:

• Gio Carlo

Notable events

For the period 1798 – 1800, during the French occupation, he was a French citizen.

There is a Michele Felice listed in the electoral register for 1860¹⁵. If this is the same person – there were at least 2 men called Michele Felice living in Valletta¹⁶ – then he lived at 40, Strada Reale in Valletta¹⁷.

Residence

He lived in Valletta as an adult because that’s where his son was born¹⁸.

Curiosities

The church register for baptisms lists his full name incorrectly in the margin¹⁹. In the text, his name is written as shown above. In the margin, he’s named as Michele Fortunato Nicola Andrea Carlo²⁰.

In the church’s marriage register, his surname is clear: ‘Felici'²¹, with an ‘I’. There is no clear reason for this, especially since the baptismal register lists him as ‘Felice’.

Death

He died before his grandson was born in 1871²². I have no other details about his death.
