Alessandro seemed to have lived his entire life in Valletta which seems odd by today’s standards but was normal in the 18th century.

He is one of my paternal 5 x great-grandfathers.

He was born on Tuesday 7th October 1766¹ in Valletta, Malta². He was the son of Giuseppe³ and Maria⁴, whose maiden name is not recorded.

Reverend Paschale Grima⁵ baptised him the day after as Alessandro Constantino Pietro Tomaso Fedele⁶ in the Collegiate and Parish Church of St Paul Shipwrecked⁷, Valletta⁸.

Family

On Thursday 19 April 1787⁹, he married Margarita Callus¹⁰ in the Basilica of Our Lady of Safe Haven, Valletta¹¹. Fr Salvator Bugeja officiated¹²

Together they had two children I know of:

• Antonio
• Carmela¹³

Notable events

For the period 1798 – 1800, during the French occupation, he was a French citizen.

Residence

He was born, and lived, in the parish of St Paul’s in Valletta¹⁴ at least until he married; this is noted in the marriage registry¹⁵.

Curiosities

His surname changes depending on which record you consult. I am sure that I have the records for this individual because all other details line up:

• His baptismal certificate shows he is a Parteca, as is his father.
• His wedding certificate shows him to be a Podeca.

I have no specific information that explains this. The similarity between the two names suggests a mispronounciation.

Death

I have no information about his death, or where he is buried.

It is likely he died in the early 19th century, and possibly in Valletta.
