Magro or Magri? It appears that a typo, or a mis-reading, is responsible for both surnames being attributed to this family.

She is one of my paternal 3 x great-grandmothers.

She was the daughter of Saverio¹ and Rosa née Vassallo² according to several unauthenticated sources, born in 1806. If you follow these names, the baptismal register of Żebbuġ parish church reveals that they had a daughter called “Angela Rosaria Philippa Joanna”³.

It is possible Maria is a different daughter and the dates are mixed up. It is also possible that those aren’t her parents, and I need better sources.

Family

On Monday 16 February 1829⁴, she married Giovanni Xiberras⁵ in the parish church of St Philip of Agrippa in Żebbug⁶.

Notable events

If she was born around 1800, during the French occupation, she was briefly a French citizen.

Residence

She lived with her family in Żebbuġ, Malta⁸ before marriage, but it’s not clear whether she was born here or not.

I know she lived in Attard after marriage, since that’s where her daughter was born⁹.

Curiosities

Her name is sometimes listed as “Magri”¹⁰ and it looks like this may be an orthographical error. Once I have a full set of official certificates for her, I’ll be able to understand where the misunderstanding came from.

Death

I have no clear information about her death. Given her likely life span, she died in the 19th century.
