Salvatore may be one of the few ancestors of mine who lived to a 100. Like most 19th century people, he lived in Valletta as it evolved under British rule.

He is one of my maternal 3 x great-grandfathers.

He is the son of Paolo Cremona¹ and Maria Antonia Borg².

There were two young boys of the same name recorded in Valletta in the late 18th century³. One was 6 years of age in 1790⁴ and lived in the parish of Our Lady of Safe Haven⁵; the other was 3 years of age in 1792⁶ and lived in the parish of St Paul Shipwreck⁷. Given his year of marriage, both of them could equally be this Salvatore.

Family

On Sunday 13 January 1833⁸, he married Concetta Debono⁹ in the Roman Catholic Church of St Paul’s Shipwreck¹⁰ in Valletta, Malta. Reverend Joseph Cremona officiated the wedding¹¹.

Together they had 2 children I know of:

• Vincenzo
• Ludcarda

Notable events

For the period 1798 – 1800, during the French occupation, he was a French citizen.

He was a Valletta resident at marriage¹², but it is not clear if he always lived there or not.

Death

He was still alive in 1871 when his grandson was born¹³ but had died by 1912 when his daughter died¹⁴. Given his possible date of birth, this means he may have lived to be a 100.
